The best bits

Lord Street flat ยท sheltered

Mile-long Victorian boulevard

Wide tree-lined street with glass-canopied verandahs down one side โ€” genuine shelter if it rains, and benches all the way along. Walk as much or as little as you want; it's dead flat and you can turn back anywhere.

Southport Pier the landmark

Second longest pier in Britain

Completely flat, wide deck with railings and benches. There's normally a pier tram if walking the full length is too much โ€” check at the entrance. Views back over the town and out to sea.

Southport has a huge tidal range, so the sea is often a long way out and you'll see wide sand instead of water. That's normal, not a disappointment โ€” the light on the flats at golden hour is the real view.

King's Gardens & Marine Lake easiest walking

Restored Victorian gardens beside the lake

Level paths, flower beds, lots of benches, water on one side. This is the gentlest part of the day and the best place to sit with your flask. Good spot to end on.

If you want more optional
